How to play Lucas

Layout:

8 foundation piles (left) - built up in suit from Ace to King. The Aces are dealt here at the start of the game.

Build 13 tableau piles (to the right of the foundations) in suit. Cards in sequence down in suit can be moved as a group. Any card can be used to fill a space. At the start of the game, each pile is given four cards face up.

Stock (upper left, face down) - click to turn over 1 card at a time to the garbage. There are no redeals.

Waste (next to stock) - the top card can be played on the foundations or tableau.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles.

Each foundation pile is handed an ace at the start.

A card may be added to a foundation pile if it is one higher than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the only card that might be played on a 6 of diamonds is a 7 of diamonds.

Cards cannot be taken from the foundation after they have been placed.

Tableau:

Splayed downhill, thirteen tableau piles of three cards each. Every card is dealt face up.

A card may be added to a tableau pile if it is one lower and of the same suit as the original top card of the pile. As a result, the only card that could be played on a Q of diamonds is a J of diamonds.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.

Technically, only one card may be moved at a time, but because supermoves are allowed, politaire will allow you to move sequences when there are enough vacant tableau columns to achieve the same result with a series of single card movements.

Stock and waste:

There is one garbage pile and the remaining cards comprise the stock.

When you click on the stock, one card from the stock is dealt to the garbage. There can only be one trip through the stock.

The top card of the trash can be played to the tableau or foundation.
