How to play Queen Victoria

Layout:

4 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

9 tableau piles: Alternate color construction. If groups of cards are in sequence, move them down by alternate color. Any available card may be used to fill any open space. To begin the game, one card is dealt face-up to the first pile, two cards to the second pile, and so on.

7 reserve cards: Each card can be played on the foundations or the tableau. At the start of the game, each pile is dealt one card.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles.

Any ace in the foundation may be transferred to any vacant pile.

A card may be added to a foundation pile if it is one higher than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the only card that could be played on a J of diamonds is a Q of diamonds.

Cards cannot be taken from the foundation after they have been placed.

Reserve:

The remaining cards are arranged in a single reserve pile.

All cards in the reserve can be played to the tableau or foundation.

Tableau:

There are nine tableau piles, with one card in the first pile, two cards in the second, three cards in the third, and so on. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card may be added to a tableau pile if it is one lower than the pile's previous top card and is of the opposing color. As a result, the cards that might be played on the 6 of diamonds are 5 of spades or 5 of clubs.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.

If the cards are alternately red and black, groups of cards in succession from high to low can be shifted from one tableau column to another.
