Spread the deck into eighteen tidy three-card fans, stash tricky cards in one of two free cells, and reason your way home instead of trusting luck. Lucky Fan Game Layout

Lucky Fan Solitaire takes the classic Fan idea and tightens it into something quicker and friendlier. The whole deck is spread across eighteen little fans, but no fan is ever allowed to hold more than three cards, so the table stays open and easy to read from the first move. Two free cells sit alongside as a small safety valve, letting you park an awkward card while you dig for the one underneath.

The game descends from the old French "L'Éventail" family, where fans of three cards have been dealt for generations. Adding free cells and a strict three-card cap turns a stubborn old game into one that rewards planning far more than raw luck. Because you can see every fan in full and can stash trouble in a cell, most deals can be reasoned out rather than gambled on.

Building on the fans follows suit downward, and only Kings may start a fan back up once it empties, so the pace comes from unpacking the fans in the right order. Send everything home to the four foundations, Ace up to King, and you win.

How to play Lucky Fan Solitaire

Layout:

4 foundation piles: Build up in the same suit from Ace to King.

18 fans: The whole deck is fanned out, roughly three cards to a fan. Only the top card of each fan is playable, and no fan may ever hold more than three cards.

2 free cells: Each cell holds a single card of any kind. Use them to temporarily free up a fan.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles, all starting empty.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 7 of clubs is an 8 of clubs. Each pile runs from Ace up to King.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

Eighteen fans are dealt face-up, with about three cards each. No fan ever grows past three cards.

A card can be added to a fan only if it's one rank lower and the same suit as the fan's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 7 of clubs is a 6 of clubs. Cards on the fans that are not covered can be played to the foundation, to another fan, or into a free cell.

Only one card may be moved at a time; sequences are not permitted. When a fan is emptied, only a King may be placed on the vacant space.

Reserve:

The two free cells act as your reserve. Each cell holds one card of any rank or suit, and that card may be played back out to a fan or foundation whenever the move fits. There is no stock and no redeal, so plan each cell carefully.
