It's difficult, with a 20% chance of winning, and it's played with two decks.

Once you've had enough of Spider's construction rule bolted on, Solitaire is the natural next stop.

How to play Waterloo Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit. The Aces are dealt onto these piles at the start of the game.

6 tableau piles: Build down regardless of suit. Groups of cards can move together only if they're a same-suit sequence. Any card can fill an empty pile. Each pile is dealt one card face-up at the start.

Stock: Click to turn over one card at a time to the waste pile. There are no redeals.

Waste: The top card can be played on the foundations or tableau.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

Any ace on a foundation can be moved back to an empty tableau pile.

A card can be added to a foundation pile if it's one rank higher than the pile's top card and the same suit. So the only card that fits on a 7 of hearts is an 8 of hearts. Each pile holds at most 13 cards.

The top card of each foundation can move back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

There are six tableau piles, each dealt one card face-up at the start.

A card can be added to a tableau pile if it's one rank lower than the pile's top card, regardless of suit. So a nine of any suit can be played on a ten.

Any uncovered tableau card is free to move to the foundation or another tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty tableau slot.

A same-suit sequence, high to low, can move together as a group from one tableau pile to another.

Stock and waste:

There's one waste pile; everything else makes up the stock.

Click the stock to deal one card to the waste. You get a single pass through the stock, with no redeal.

The top card of the waste can be played to the tableau or foundation.
