FreeCell doubled, then handicapped: two decks fill ten columns, and your four cells start full instead of empty. Win it back at an 80% clip. Repair Game Layout

Repair Solitaire is FreeCell doubled — and then handicapped. Two full decks are dealt face up into ten columns of ten cards, and the last four cards of the deal are placed straight into the four free cells. Every one of the 104 cards is visible from the first move, so nothing is left to chance once the shuffle is done.

That pre-loaded start is the game's signature and the likely source of its name: where FreeCell hands you four empty cells to maneuver with, Repair starts you with none, and your first job is to mend the position and win that breathing room back. Eight foundation piles await a full Ace-to-King sequence in each suit.

You'll win about 80% of deals here — a medium difficulty, with two full decks in play and skill carrying you more than chance does.

FreeCell and Double FreeCell Solitaire are the closest relatives, if you want to compare notes.

How to play Repair Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up in suit from Ace to King.

4 cells: Each cell holds one card. One card is dealt to each cell at the start of the game.

10 tableau piles: Build down in alternating colors. Each pile is dealt ten cards, all face up. Any card can fill a space.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

Each pile must begin with an Ace. A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 6 of diamonds is a 7 of diamonds. A pile is complete when it reaches the King.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Cells:

There are four cells, and each is dealt one card at the start of the game.

One card can be stored in each cell. Any available card can be played into any vacant cell. Cell cards can be played back to the tableau or the foundation.

Tableau:

Ten tableau piles of ten cards each. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, so the only cards that fit on a 9 of diamonds are the 8 of spades and 8 of clubs.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card can be played onto the foundation, an empty cell, or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.

Technically, only one card may be moved at a time, but because super-moves are allowed, we will allow you to move sequences when there are enough vacant cells or tableau columns to achieve the same result with a single card move.
