Eight Off Solitaire is FreeCell with two extra cells (eight instead of four) and a stricter tableau: cards build down within the same suit rather than just alternating colors, and only Kings can fill an empty column. It's one of the easier variants here, with a 95% chance of winning, and skill matters far more than luck.

Its closest relatives are Baker's Solitaire, the four-cell original, FreeCell, which builds by alternating colors instead of suit, and Eight On Solitaire, which starts with every cell already full.

How to play Eight Off Solitaire

Layout:

4 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

8 cells: Each cell holds one card. A cell card can be played to the foundations or the tableau. At the start of the game, one card is dealt into each of the first four cells.

8 tableau piles: Build down within the same suit. The top card of any pile can move to the foundations, a free cell, or another tableau pile. Only one card moves at a time, so use empty cells to shuffle a longer run over card by card. Only Kings (or a King with cards on top of it) may fill an empty pile. At the start of the game, each pile is dealt six cards face-up.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles.

Any ace in the foundation may be transferred to any vacant pile.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 6 of diamonds is a 7 of diamonds.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Cells:

Eight cells, four of which hold one card at first.

Each cell holds one card. Any available card can move into an empty cell. Cell cards can move back to the tableau or up to the foundation.

Tableau:

Eight tableau piles of six cards each, all dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the same suit as the original top card of the pile, so the only card that fits on a 5 of diamonds is a 4 of diamonds.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card can be played onto the foundation, an empty cell, or any other tableau pile.

Only kings may fill empty spots in the tableau.

Only one card may be moved at a time. To relocate a sequence, park its cards on free cells and rebuild them one by one.
