ThreeCell Solitaire takes the classic FreeCell layout and removes one of its four free cells, leaving you just three parking spots for stray cards. The tableau, foundations, and building rules all work the same as in FreeCell — you just have a smaller safety net, so every move takes a bit more planning.

How to play ThreeCell Solitaire

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles.

Any ace in the foundation may be transferred to any vacant pile.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 5 of clubs is a 6 of clubs.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Cells:

Three cells, all empty at the start.

Each cell holds one card. Any card in play can move into an empty cell, and a card resting in a cell can move back to the tableau or up to a foundation.

Tableau:

There are eight tableau piles: the first four hold seven cards each, and the last four hold six cards each. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, so the only cards that fit on a 7 of diamonds are the 6 of spades and 6 of clubs.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card can be played onto the foundation, an empty cell, or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.
