Ten tableau piles, three cards each, one pass through the stock, and better than a 99% win rate: Klondike with nearly all luck, hardly any strategy.

Westcliff Solitaire is about as forgiving as Klondike gets. You still build down in alternating colors and send cards home to the foundations, but the tableau spreads across ten piles instead of seven, and each one starts with just three cards, two face-down and one face-up, dealt from a single pass through the stock. It's also known as Westhaven.

With a single deck and better than a 99% chance of winning, luck decides almost everything here. There isn't much strategy to it.

How to play Westcliff Solitaire

Layout:

4 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

10 tableau piles: Build down by alternating color. A run of cards in alternating colors can be moved together as a group. Any card can fill an empty pile. Each pile starts with three cards: two face-down, one face-up.

Stock: Click to turn over one card at a time to the waste. There are no redeals.

Waste: The top card is always available to play on a foundation or the tableau.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles.

Any ace can be placed on an empty foundation pile.

A card can join a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's top card. So the only card that can go on a 4 of diamonds is the 5 of diamonds.

The top card of a foundation pile can be played back onto the tableau if a spot will take it.

Tableau:

Each of the ten tableau piles starts with three cards: the top card face-up, the two beneath it face-down.

A card can join a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's top card. So the only cards that can go on a 5 of clubs are the 4 of hearts or 4 of diamonds.

Any tableau card that isn't covered by another card is free to move, onto the foundation or another tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty tableau pile.

A run of cards in alternating colors, from high to low, can be moved together from one tableau pile to another.

Stock and waste:

The remaining cards form the stock, with a single waste pile.

Clicking the stock deals one card to the waste. You get just one pass through the stock, there's no redeal.

The top card of the waste can be played to the tableau or a foundation.
