Milligan Yukon Solitaire takes the Milligan Harp layout and borrows two habits from Yukon: any face-up card can move together with everything stacked on it, not just a tidy sequence, and only a King can drop into an empty column. That King-only rule, plus the single pass through the stock, is why this one rates medium difficulty and wins about 65% of the time. Two decks are dealt, and skill matters more than luck once you're working through the columns.

How to play Milligan Yukon Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

8 tableau piles: Alternate color build down. Any face-up card can move together with everything stacked on top of it, regardless of the order underneath. Only a King, or a King-led group, can fill an empty pile. At the start of the game, the first pile gets one card, the second gets two, and so on.

Stock: Click to deal one card to every tableau pile at once. There are no redeals.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 4 of spades is the 5 of spades. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

There are eight tableau piles, with one card in the first pile, two in the second, three in the third, and so on. The top card in each pile is dealt face-up, while the rest are dealt face-down.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, so the cards that fit on the J of diamonds are the 10 of spades or 10 of clubs.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Only Kings may fill empty spots in the tableau.

Any face-up card can be moved to another tableau column where it fits, bringing along every card stacked on top of it, even if that group isn't in strict sequence.

Stock:

The stock is made up of leftover cards.

When you click on the stock, one card is dealt to the top of every tableau pile at once.
