Three decks, twelve tableau piles, one pass through the stock: move same-suit runs as a group to crack open the crowded board. Marie Rose Game Layout

Marie Rose Solitaire is a big, three-deck thief game for players who like plenty of cards in front of them. A hundred and fifty-six cards go into play, twelve tableau piles hold five face-up cards each at the start, and twelve foundations wait to be filled from Ace up to King. It plays like a supersized Josephine: build down in suit, and because same-suit runs move as a group, you can shift whole ordered sequences at once.

That single rule is what sets Marie Rose apart from Sixty Thieves, the game it plays closest to, where cards must be moved one at a time. Being able to relocate a tidy run of the same suit in one motion opens up the crowded board and gives skilled play real leverage over the deal.

With three decks the odds lean on planning. You only get a single pass through the stock, so it pays to open the tableau early, keep suits together, and feed the foundations steadily rather than hoarding. Emptied columns are precious here because any card or run may move into a gap.

If you enjoy Marie Rose, try Sixty Thieves Solitaire or the two-deck Josephine Solitaire.

How to play Marie Rose Solitaire

Layout:

12 foundation piles: Build up in the same suit from Ace to King. Three full decks fill all twelve.

12 tableau piles: Build down in the same suit. Each pile starts with five face-up cards. Same-suit runs may be moved together, and empty columns can be filled by any card or run.

Stock: Turn cards one at a time to the waste. There is only one pass.

Waste: The top waste card is playable.

Foundation:

There are twelve foundation piles, all starting empty, one for each suit across the three decks.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 7 of clubs is an 8 of clubs. Each pile runs from Ace up to King.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

Twelve tableau piles sit side by side, each dealt five cards face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 7 of clubs is a 6 of clubs. A run of cards already in descending same-suit order may be moved as a single unit.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered can be played to the foundation or to another tableau pile. Any card or run may be placed into an empty column.

Stock and waste:

The remaining ninety-six cards form the stock, with one waste pile beside it.

When you click the stock, one card is dealt to the waste. You get only a single pass through the stock. The top waste card can be played to any tableau pile or foundation.
