How to play Malmaison

Layout:

16 foundation piles: 16 foundation piles arranged in suit from Ace to King.

10 tableau piles: Built down in suit. Groups of cards can be moved if they are in the same suit sequence. Any card can fill a space. At the start of the game, each pile is given 8 cards.

Stock: Click to turn over 1 card at a time to the garbage. There are no redeals.

Waste: The top card can be played on the foundations or tableau.

Foundation:

There are twelve foundation piles.

Any ace in the foundation may be transferred to any vacant pile.

A card may be added to a foundation pile if it is one higher than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the only card that could be played on a 7 of clubs is an 8 of clubs. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile.

Cards cannot be taken from the foundation after they have been placed.

Tableau:

Splayed downhill, twelve tableau piles of five cards each. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card may be added to a tableau pile if it is one lower and of the same suit as the original top card of the pile. As a result, the only card that could be played on a 10 of diamonds is a 9 of diamonds.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.

If all cards are of the same suit, groups of cards in succession from high to low may be moved from one tableau column to another.

Stock and waste:

There is one garbage pile and the remaining cards comprise the stock.

When you click on the stock, one card from the stock is dealt to the garbage. There can only be one trip through the stock.

The top card of the trash can be played to the tableau or foundation.
