Inquisitor Solitaire is Thomas Warfield's suit-strict take on Lady Jane Solitaire: every tableau build and every stack move has to stay within one suit, so the game gives you an extra redeal to make up for the tighter rules. It's medium difficulty, with about a 30% chance of winning, and it's played with two decks.

How to play Inquisitor Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

10 tableau piles: Build down in suit. Groups of cards in sequence can move together as long as they're all the same suit. Any card can fill an empty pile. To start, one card is dealt face-up to the first pile, two to the second, and so on.

Stock: Click to deal three cards at a time to the waste. There are two redeals.

Waste: The top card is always available for play on the foundations or tableau.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

Any ace on a foundation can be moved back to an empty tableau pile.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card. So the only card that can follow a 7 of hearts is the 8 of hearts. A pile holds no more than 13 cards.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

There are ten tableau piles, dealt in a rising line: one card in the first pile, two in the second, three in the third, and so on. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the same suit as the pile's top card. So the only card that can follow an 8 of diamonds is the 7 of diamonds.

Cards not covered by another card are free to move to the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty tableau slot.

If a group of cards in sequence is all the same suit, you can move it as a unit from one tableau pile to another.

Stock and waste:

There's one waste pile; the rest of the cards form the stock.

Click the stock to deal three cards to the waste. You get three passes through the stock in total (two redeals). If fewer than three cards remain at the end of a pass, only those are dealt. Redealing turns the waste back into a fresh stock.

The top card of the waste can be played to the tableau or foundation.
