Play two decks across ten same-suit columns, then squeeze the stock through three shrinking passes: three cards, two, then one. Time it right. Quizzie Game Layout

Quizzie Solitaire is a two-deck twist on Thomas Warfield's Inquisitor, played across ten tableau columns with eight foundations to fill. The whole game builds by suit: foundations climb from Ace to King, tableau columns come down in the same suit, and matching runs slide from column to column in one move.

What sets Quizzie apart from its parent is the size of the deal. Tap the stock and three cards drop onto the waste on your first pass through it; the second pass deals only two at a time; the third, just one. Because every redeal hands you fewer cards, the early passes are your most generous — waste them and the later, thinner deals rarely bail you out. Timing when to burn a deal against when to keep untangling the tableau is the whole game.

Two decks and same-suit building make Quizzie a slower, more deliberate puzzle than most one-deck patiences, and completed foundation runs whisk away on their own to keep the table clear.

If you enjoy Quizzie, try Inquisitor Solitaire, the original this variation grew out of, or go back a step further to Lady Jane Solitaire, the any-suit ancestor both of these tightened into same-suit play.

How to play Quizzie Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up by suit from Ace to King. Completed cards are carried to the foundations automatically.

10 tableau piles: Build down in the same suit. Only same-suit runs may be moved as a unit. Dealt in a rising line: one card in the first pile, two in the second, and so on up to ten cards in the tenth.

Stock: Click to deal cards to the waste — three at a time on the first pass, two on the second, one on the third. Three passes in all.

Waste: The top waste card is playable.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles, filled from two decks.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on the 8 of hearts is the 9 of hearts. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile. Available cards are moved to the foundations for you when a legal play exists.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

There are ten tableau piles, dealt in a rising line: one card in the first pile, two in the second, three in the third, and so on up to ten cards in the tenth pile. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on the 8 of hearts is the 7 of hearts. A run already in same-suit descending order may be moved together as a single unit.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered may be played onto the foundations or onto another tableau pile that continues the run.

Stock and waste:

There's one waste pile; the rest of the cards form the stock.

Click the stock to deal cards to the waste — three at a time on the first pass, two on the second, one on the third. If fewer cards remain than the pass calls for, only those are dealt. Three passes are allowed in total, and the top card of the waste is always available for play.
