Two decks and 104 cards fill ten piles stacked one to ten deep, with three passes of a three-card stock making this a moderately tough climb. Big Harp Game Layout

Big Harp Solitaire is the two-deck member of the Harp family. In the German tradition, Klondike-style games are known as "the Harp" — die Harfe — because the sloping columns of cards fan out like the strings of the instrument, and Big Harp simply doubles that familiar picture.

With 104 cards in play, the layout grows to ten tableau piles, dealt from one card up to ten with only each pile's top card face up, and eight foundations that all need to climb from Ace to King. The stock deals three cards at a time, and you may work through it three times in total, so the pace is familiar Klondike — but the endurance required is not.

The game is moderately difficult, and it's played with two decks: the deep piles bury a lot of face-down cards, and with two copies of every card in play, it's easy to build on the wrong one. Winning takes skill, but with that much doubled material, luck still gets a say.

If you enjoy Big Harp, Harp Solitaire and Endless Harp Solitaire are its closest relatives, and original Solitaire is the classic the whole family descends from.

How to play Big Harp Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up in suit from Ace to King.

10 tableau piles: Build down in alternating colors. The piles are dealt one to ten cards, with only the top card of each pile face up. Only Kings may fill empty spaces.

Stock: Click to deal three cards at a time to the waste. You may go through the stock three times in total.

Waste: The top card is playable.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

Any Ace may be moved to an empty foundation pile. A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on an 8 of spades is a 9 of spades. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

Ten tableau piles are dealt in increasing depth, from one card in the first pile to ten in the tenth — 55 cards in all — with only each pile's top card face up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, so the only cards that fit on an 8 of spades are the 7 of hearts and 7 of diamonds.

A face-up card may be moved together with the cards on top of it as long as they form a descending sequence of alternating colors. A face-down card is turned over as soon as it becomes the top card of its pile.

Empty tableau spots may only be filled with a King or a sequence headed by a King.

Stock and waste:

There is one waste pile and the remaining 49 cards make up the stock.

When you click on the stock, three cards are dealt to the waste. When the stock is empty, clicking it turns the waste over to form a new stock. You may go through the stock three times in total (two redeals).

The top card of the waste can be played to the tableau or foundation.
