Batsford Again gives you a second pass through the waste, turning Batsford's stingy 8% win rate into a friendlier 15% across two decks and eight foundations. Batsford Again Game Layout

Batsford Again Solitaire is Batsford with a second chance. It's the same two-deck Klondike giant: ten tableau piles dealt in a growing staircase, eight foundations climbing by suit from Ace to King, and a small reserve that stores up to three Kings. But where Batsford gives you only one pass through the stock, Batsford Again lets you turn the waste over and deal through it a second time. Across enough deals, expect to win roughly 15% of them: it's a difficult game, played with two decks, where skill sets the ceiling but luck still has its say.

That single extra pass is worth more than it sounds: standard Batsford wins only about 8% of the time, and most losses come from one buried card that the stock never offers again. The redeal gives every card in the waste a second audition, so the strategy shifts from grabbing whatever you can to deliberately leaving cards behind on the first pass and setting up the second. The King reserve plays the same quiet role as in the parent game, lifting Kings out of the way until an empty column is ready for them.

Batsford Solitaire and Gargantua Solitaire are solitaire games that are comparable to this one.

Original Solitaire is a quieter, slower game if this two-deck marathon wears you out.

How to play Batsford Again Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

10 tableau piles: Build down in alternating colors. Cards in descending alternating-color sequence can be moved as a group. Only Kings, or groups led by a King, can fill an empty space. At the start of the game, one card is dealt to the first pile, two to the second, and so on; the top card of each pile is face-up.

Reserve: Storage for Kings. Up to three Kings may be parked here, and the top one is available for play.

Stock: Click to turn over one card at a time to the waste. The waste is recycled once, for two passes in total.

Waste: The top card is available for play.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

Any Ace may be moved to an empty foundation pile. A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 5 of diamonds is a 6 of diamonds. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Reserve:

There is one reserve pile, which starts empty and holds at most three cards.

Only a King may be placed on an empty reserve, and any further card must match the rank of the card already there — so the pile can only ever contain Kings.

The top card of the reserve may be played to the foundations or to an empty tableau pile. Only one card may be moved at a time.

Tableau:

Ten tableau piles: one card in the first, two in the second, three in the third, and so on. The top card of each pile is dealt face-up, while the remaining cards are dealt face-down.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, so the only cards that fit on a 4 of hearts are the 3 of spades and 3 of clubs.

Cards not covered by another card are available for play on the foundations, any other tableau pile, or — in the case of Kings — the reserve. Groups of cards in descending alternating-color sequence may be moved together.

Only Kings, or sequences led by a King, may fill empty spots in the tableau.

Stock and waste:

There is one waste pile, and the remaining 49 cards make up the stock.

When you click on the stock, one card is dealt to the waste. When the stock runs out, the waste is turned over to form a new stock once — there are two passes in total.

The top card of the waste can be played to the tableau, the reserve, or the foundations.
