Klondike, but the stock deals to three waste piles at once, so three cards are always in play instead of one, a twist that feels more forgiving than the classic game. Spike Game Layout

Spike Solitaire is Klondike with an extra dose of choice. The tableau, the foundations and the build rules are all pure Klondike, but the stock feeds three waste piles instead of one. Every time you tap the stock, it deals one card to each of the three piles at once, and all three top cards are yours to play whenever you like.

That small structural change makes a big difference in practice. In ordinary Klondike a card you need often hides two or three spots down in the waste; here it may be sitting on top of a different pile, ready to go. Three exposed cards instead of one give you more openings on any given turn, which is why Spike tends to feel more forgiving than the classic game.

It is a single-deck game with one pass through the stock and no redeals, so those three piles are all the reserve you get. Empty columns still open only for Kings, and the four foundations build up by suit from Ace to King. Use the wider view of the waste to line up moves in advance, and skill will carry you further than luck.

Kingsley Solitaire flips the foundations and tableau to build the other direction, though it deals from a single waste pile instead of three.

Once you've had your fill of the extra piles, circle back to original Solitaire for the plain, single-waste version this all started from.

How to play Spike Solitaire

Layout:

4 foundation piles: Build up by suit from Ace to King. Cards are collected here one at a time and are moved automatically when a legal play is available.

7 tableau piles: Dealt in a triangle from one card to seven, each pile face down except its top card. Build down in alternating colors, moving single cards or ordered runs between columns.

Stock: Click to deal one card to each of the three waste piles at once, in a single pass through the deck. There are no redeals.

3 waste piles: The top card of each waste pile is ready for play.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles, all empty at the start.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on the 7 of clubs is the 8 of clubs. Each pile runs from Ace up to King and holds thirteen cards.

Whenever a card can move to a foundation, the game collects it automatically. Cards cannot be taken back from the foundation once they have been placed.

Tableau:

There are seven tableau piles, dealt from one card in the first pile to seven in the last. Only the top card of each pile starts face-up; the rest are turned over as they are exposed.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a red 9 is a black 8. Ordered runs of alternating color may be moved together.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card can be played onto the foundation or another tableau pile.

Empty tableau columns may be filled only with a King, or with a run headed by a King.

Stock and waste:

There are three waste piles and the remaining cards make up the stock.

When you click on the stock, it deals one card to each of the three waste piles in a single sweep. You only get one pass through the stock, with no reshuffle.

The top card of any waste pile can be played to a tableau pile or foundation.
