Feed five empty tableaus straight from the stock while working a 13-card reserve, and enjoy one of the site's friendliest win rates: 90%. Frog Game Layout

Frog Solitaire is Sir Tommy's relative with a reserve added in. A 13-card reserve pile, called the Frog, sits next to five tableau piles that start empty and can only ever be fed by fresh cards from the stock, never from each other or the reserve. You build the eight foundations up regardless of suit, using two decks, and get only one pass through the stock. All that extra room makes Frog a much gentler game than it sounds: a 90% chance of winning, with luck and a bit of planning both playing a part.

Fly Solitaire and Housefly are two solitaire games similar to this one, and it's also related to Sir Tommy Solitaire.

How to play Frog Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King, regardless of suit.

Reserve: 13 cards dealt here at the start of the game. Only the top card is in play, and it goes straight to the foundations.

Stock: Turn over one card at a time. It stays face up, acting as a one-card waste, until you play it. There are no redeals.

Waste: Holds one card at a time, playable to the foundations or to any of the five tableau piles. You must play it before another card can be dealt from the stock.

5 tableau piles: All start empty. Only cards freshly dealt from the stock can land here, never cards from another tableau pile, the reserve, or a foundation. Any rank, any suit. The top card may be played to the foundations by double-clicking or right-clicking.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher than the pile's current top card, regardless of suit, so the only card that fits on a 4 is a 5.

The top card of a foundation can be moved onto another foundation pile if it continues that pile's sequence, but it can't go back into the tableau; only fresh cards from the stock ever land there.

Tableau:

There are five tableau piles, all of which are originally empty.

Cards from the stock can be added to the tableau regardless of suit or rank, so the cards that fit on a 4 are J, Q, K, A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Cards may not be moved to the tableau from other tableau piles, the reserve, or a foundation.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card can be played onto a foundation.

Any card from the stock may be used to fill an empty tableau slot, and again, cards from other tableau piles or the reserve are not allowed to fill it.

Only one card may be moved at a time; sequences are not permitted.

Stock:

The stock is made up of whatever cards are left after the reserve and tableau are dealt.

The top card of the stock stays face-up once turned, so you may play it to the tableau or the foundation whenever you're ready. You only get one pass through the stock.
