How to play Forty-Nine

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

7 tableau piles: Alternate color build down. Except for sliding groupings of cards down by alternate color into an empty area, only one card may be moved at a time. Any available card or collection of cards may fill a space. At the start of the game, each pile is dealt 7 cards face-up.

Stock: By clicking, flip over cards one at a time to the garbage. There are no redeals.

Waste: Always have the top card available for play on the foundations or tableau.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

Any ace in the foundation may be transferred to any vacant pile.

A card may be added to a foundation pile if it is one higher than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the only card that might be played on a 10 of spades is a J of spades. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile.

Cards cannot be taken from the foundation after they have been placed.

Tableau:

Splayed downhill, seven tableau piles of seven cards each. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card may be added to a tableau pile if it is one lower than the pile's previous top card and of any suit. As a result, the card that may be played on a five is a four of any suit.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.

Technically, only one card may be moved at a time, however, enabling super-moves allows you to move sequences when there are enough vacant tableau columns to achieve the same result with a sequence of single-card moves.

Stock and waste:

There is one garbage pile and the remaining cards comprise the stock.

When you click on the stock, one card from the stock is dealt to the garbage. There can only be one trip through the stock.

The top card of the trash can be played to the tableau or foundation.
