How to play Eight by Eight

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

8 tableau piles: Build down in any suit. Cards in sequence down, regardless of suit, can be moved in a group. Spaces can only be filled by a single card, not by a set of cards. At the start of the game, each pile is dealt 8 cards face-up.

Stock: Click to discard three cards at a time during the first deal, two cards at a time during the second deal, and one card at a time during the final deal. There are two redeals.

Waste: The top card can be played on the foundations or tableau.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

Any ace in the foundation may be transferred to any vacant pile.

A card may be added to a foundation pile if it is one higher than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the only card that could be played on a 7 of hearts is an 8 of hearts. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile.

Cards cannot be taken from the foundation after they have been placed.

Tableau:

Splayed downhill, eight tableau piles of eight cards each. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card may be added to a tableau pile if it is one lower than the pile's previous top card and of any suit. As a result, the card that might be played on a four is a three of any suit.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any single card may occupy an empty spot in the tableau, but not a stack of cards.

Regardless of their suits, groups of cards in succession from high to low may be transferred from one tableau column to another.

Stock and waste:

There is one garbage pile and the remaining cards comprise the stock.

When you click on the stock, three cards from the stock are dealt to the garbage. There are three trips through the stock allowed. The number of cards turned over at a time is lowered by one in each pass, thus in the second pass, cards are turned over two by two and one by one in the last pass. If there aren't enough cards left in the deck at the end of a pass, only the remaining cards are dealt. If another pass is made, the trash will be switched over to become fresh stock before the following transaction.

The top card of the trash can be played to the tableau or foundation.
