How to play Canister

Layout:

4 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

8 tableau piles: Build down in any suit. Cards in sequence down, regardless of suit, can be moved in a group. Any card or lawful collection of cards may be used to fill the spaces. At the start of the game, the top four piles receive seven cards, while the final four piles receive six cards.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles.

Any ace in the foundation may be transferred to any vacant pile.

A card may be added to a foundation pile if it is one higher than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the only card that could be played on a 4 of hearts is a 5 of hearts.

Cards cannot be taken from the foundation after they have been placed.

Tableau:

There are eight tableau piles of cards, with the first four each having seven cards and the next four each having six cards. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card may be added to a tableau pile if it is one lower than the pile's previous top card and of any suit. As a result, the card that may be played on a nine is an eight of any suit.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.

Regardless of their suits, groups of cards in succession from high to low may be transferred from one tableau column to another.
