Robie Solitaire is Thomas Warfield's version of Forty Thieves Solitaire with one big change: every tableau pile starts empty. Instead of a pre-dealt spread, all 104 cards from the two decks begin in the stock, and you build all ten piles yourself as you play. Any card can open a pile, but once it's started, each pile builds down in suit, one card at a time, with no sequences allowed. It's a 50-50 kind of game, right in the middle for difficulty, with skill carrying more weight than luck.

Aside from the empty start, it plays a lot like Forty Thieves Solitaire: the same eight foundations, the same same-suit tableau building, and the same single pass through the stock.

How to play Robie Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

10 tableau piles: Build down in suit, one card at a time; no sequences move together. Any card can open an empty pile. All ten piles start empty.

Stock: Click to deal one card at a time to the waste. There are no redeals.

Waste: The top card can be played to the foundations or tableau. Every waste card stays visible.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

Any Ace can start an empty foundation pile.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher than the pile's current top card and of the same suit, so the only card that can follow a 4 of diamonds is a 5 of diamonds. A full pile runs from Ace to King, thirteen cards.

The top card of any foundation pile can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

Ten tableau piles, all empty at the start.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and of the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that can follow a 9 of clubs is an 8 of clubs.

Any tableau card not covered by another card is free to move to the foundation or another tableau pile.

Any card can open an empty tableau pile.

Stock and waste:

The entire deck makes up the stock at the start, and there is one waste pile.

When you click the stock, one card deals to the waste. You only get one pass through the stock, with no redeals.

The top card of the waste can be played to the tableau or a foundation.
