Thirteen columns of four, build down in any suit, but empty one and it's gone forever: one of the toughest deals here, with just a 1% win rate. Lucky Thirteen Game Layout

The rules are simple: thirteen columns of four cards, build down regardless of suit, and move only one card at a time. Once a column is empty, it stays empty, so the game is extremely difficult, with a 1% chance of winning. It's played with a single deck, and even careful play often isn't enough to beat the deal.

Other solitaire games like Cruel, Lucky Piles Solitaire, and Luckier Thirteen Solitaire are comparable to this one.

If Lucky Thirteen's dead ends wear you down, original Solitaire gives you room to redeal and recover.

How to play Lucky Thirteen Solitaire

Layout:

4 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

13 tableau piles: Build down in any suit. Only one card can be moved at a time. There are no empty spaces. At the start of the game, each pile is given four cards.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles, each starting empty.

An Ace starts a foundation. A card can be added only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 9 of hearts is a 10 of hearts.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

Thirteen tableau piles of four cards each, all dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower than the pile's current top card, regardless of suit, so the card that fits on a five is a four of any suit.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card can be played onto the foundation or any non-empty tableau pile.

The tableau's empty spaces may not be filled.

Only one card may be moved at a time; sequences are not permitted.
