This game should not be confused with the completely different game Tvete's Grandfather, often known as "Grandfather." The game is quite simple, with a 97% chance of winning. It's played with two decks, and your odds of victory are mainly determined by chance.

How to play Grandfather

Layout:

8 foundation piles: 8 foundation piles, then the last four piles in suit order from King to Ace.

20 tableau piles: Top card is only playable on the foundations. Each pile can hold up to two cards. Spaces are automatically filled from the stock. At the start of the game, each pile is dealt one card face-up.

Stock: Click to turn over 1 card to the garbage. One more transaction.

Waste: The top card can be played on the foundations or tableau.

Foundation:

Foundation piles are classified into two types.

Fundament A:

Foundation A has four piles, and any ace can be relocated to any vacant pile in foundation A. Each pile must begin with a distinct suit. A card may be added to a foundation A pile if it is one higher than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the only card that might be played on a 9 of spades is a 10 of spades. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile.

B Foundation:

Foundation B has four piles, and any king can be transferred to any vacant pile in foundation B. Each pile must begin with a distinct suit. A card may be added to a foundation B pile if it is one lower than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the only card that could be played on a 10 of diamonds is a 9 of diamonds. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile.

Cards cannot be removed from any foundation once they have been placed on it.

Tableau:

Splayed downhill, twenty tableau piles of one card each. Every card is dealt face-up.

Regardless of suit or rank, cards from the discard pile may be added to the tableau. In other words, any card may be played on any other card. Cards from other tableau piles are not permitted to be moved to the tableau.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card can be played onto the foundation or any empty tableau pile.

Empty tableau spots are immediately filled with a card from the stock. If the stock is empty, any card may be used to fill the tableau's empty places.

Only one card may be moved at a time; sequences are not permitted.

Stock and waste:

There is one garbage pile and the remaining cards comprise the stock.

When you click on the stock, one card from the stock is dealt to the garbage. There are two trips through the stock allowed.

The top card of the trash can be played to the tableau or foundation.
