How to play Fifteen

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up in suit from Ace to King on the left piles, build down in suit from King to Ace on the right piles.

15 tableau piles: Build up or down according to suit, no wrapping. The top card is accessible for play on the foundations or another tableau pile; however, only one card may be moved at a time. Any card can fill a space. Each pile receives 7 cards at the start of the game, with the exception of the last pile, which receives just 6.

Foundation:

Foundation piles are classified into two types.

Fundament A:

Foundation A has four piles, and any ace can be relocated to any vacant pile in foundation A. Each pile must begin with a distinct suit. A card may be added to a foundation A pile if it is one higher than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the only card that could be played on a 7 of clubs is an 8 of clubs. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile.

B Foundation:

Foundation B has four piles, and any king can be transferred to any vacant pile in foundation B. Each pile must begin with a distinct suit. A card may be added to a foundation B pile if it is one lower than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the only card that could be played on a 9 of hearts is an 8 of hearts. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile.

Cards cannot be removed from any foundation once they have been placed on it.

Tableau:

There are fifteen tableau piles of cards, with the first fourteen each having seven cards and the following one having six cards. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card may be added to a tableau pile if it is one higher or one lower than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the cards that might be played on the 7 of spades are 6 of spades or 8 of spades.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.

Technically, only one card may be moved at a time, however, enabling super-moves allows you to move sequences when there are enough vacant tableau columns to achieve the same result with a sequence of single-card moves.
