Dragon Solitaire is a Chinese Solitaire variant played with a single deck across seven tableau piles. Instead of alternating colors, you build down within the same suit, and any face-up card can shift to another pile along with everything stacked on top of it. Once you're out of moves, you get one pass through the reserve, dealing a fresh card face-up onto every tableau pile.

Dragon Solitaire fans should give the classic Solitaire a spin too, along with Chinese Solitaire, the variant Dragon is based on.

How to play Dragon Solitaire

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles.

Any ace in the foundation may be transferred to any vacant pile.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 6 of hearts is a 7 of hearts.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Reserve:

The reserve holds the cards left over after the deal.

You get one pass through it: press the reserve button once, and a card deals face-up onto every tableau pile. After that, the reserve is spent for good.

Tableau:

Seven tableau piles are dealt: the first three piles hold eight cards each and the remaining four hold seven. The first pile is entirely face-up, and each pile after it starts with one more face-down card at the bottom than the previous pile, from one in the second pile up to six in the seventh; the rest of the cards are dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the same suit as the original top card of the pile, so the only card that fits on a 10 of diamonds is a 9 of diamonds.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.

Furthermore, any face-up card in the tableau may be transferred to another tableau column where it fits, bringing all cards on top of it with it.
