Blondes and Brunettes Solitaire is a Signora variant where a card turned up at random decides the foundations' starting rank, instead of always starting from the ace. It's medium difficulty, with a 30% chance of winning, played with two decks, and your result comes down to a mix of skill and luck.

From here, Signora Solitaire is the direct forerunner, and Spider Solitaire is the natural next stop for the classic version of the idea.

How to play Blondes and Brunettes Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up in alternating colors from the rank of the first card dealt, wrapping from King back to Ace as needed, until each pile holds 13 cards.

9 tableau piles: Build down in alternating colors. Only the top card of each pile can be moved. Empty spots are filled from the stock, or the waste if the stock is empty. Each pile starts with a single card.

Reserve: Ten cards are dealt face-up here at the start of the game. Only the top card is in play, and it can only go to a foundation.

Stock: Click to deal cards one at a time to the waste. There is only one pass through the stock.

Waste: The top card is playable.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles, filled from two decks.

One foundation pile is seeded with a random starting card; every other pile must begin with a card of that same rank. A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, wrapping from King back around to Ace, so the only cards that fit on a black J are red Qs. Each pile holds 13 cards when complete.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Reserve:

There is one reserve, and it starts with 10 cards, all dealt face-up. No cards may be moved into the reserve. The reserve's top card can only be played to a foundation.

Tableau:

Nine tableau piles of one card each, all dealt face-up.

A card from the waste or another tableau pile can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, so the only cards that fit on a black J are red 10s. Reserve cards can never move to the tableau.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Empty tableau spots are filled with a card from the stock, or the waste if the stock is empty, or another tableau pile if both are empty. Reserve cards may never fill a tableau space.

Only one card may be moved at a time; sequences are not permitted.

Stock and waste:

There is one waste pile, and the remaining cards make up the stock.

Click the stock to deal one card to the waste. There is only one pass through the stock, so use it wisely.

The top card of the waste can be played to the tableau or foundation.
