Dig through six three-card piles with two buried face-down in each, then cash in your extra pass for a 45% win rate. Blind Alleys Game Layout

A Klondike variant played on a short, square tableau of six piles with three cards each. The name fits: two of the three cards in every pile start face-down, so each column is a small dead end whose contents you cannot see until you dig them out. The layout is nearly identical to Pas Seul; the only difference is that Blind Alleys Solitaire grants you a second pass through the deck.

With just eighteen cards on the table and thirty-four in the stock, far more of the deck flows through your hands than in Klondike, and the redeal gives buried cards a second chance to appear. You'll win roughly 45% of the time on a single deck, which earns this its medium rating since skill and luck share the credit about equally.

Once you've dug through this one, Pas Seul Solitaire and Easthaven Solitaire are the obvious next stops.

For a change of pace, original Solitaire strips away the blind piles and the extra pass.

How to play Blind Alleys Solitaire

Layout:

4 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

6 tableau piles: Alternate color build down. Cards can be moved in groups if they form a sequence down by alternate color. Any card can fill a space. At the start of the game, each pile is dealt three cards, with only the top card face-up.

Stock: Click to flip over 1 card at a time to the waste pile. There is one redeal, for two passes through the deck in total.

Waste: The top card can be played on the foundations or tableau.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 9 of hearts is a 10 of hearts.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

Six tableau piles of three cards each. The top card in each pile is dealt face-up, while the remaining cards are dealt face-down.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, so the only cards that fit on a 6 of spades are the 5 of hearts and 5 of diamonds.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.

If the cards are alternately red and black, groups of cards in succession from high to low can be shifted from one tableau column to another.

Stock and waste:

There is one waste pile and the remaining cards comprise the stock.

When you click on the stock, one card from the stock is dealt to the waste. When the stock runs out, the waste is turned over to form a new stock once; you get two passes through the deck in total.

The top card of the waste can be played to the tableau or foundation.
