Skip the stock, split eight foundations four up from Ace and four down from King, and wrestle thirteen tricky piles for a 25% win rate. Bisley Game Layout

Bisley Solitaire deals out the whole deck at the start, so there's no stock to fall back on. You get eight foundations (four climbing up from Ace, four working down from King) and thirteen tableau piles to untangle, building each one up or down by suit. It's a single-deck game of medium difficulty, with a 25% chance of winning, and your result comes down mostly to skill.

Other games in the same up-or-down-by-suit family include Double Bisley, Indefatigable Solitaire, Royal Family Solitaire, and Janet's Bisley.

When thirteen piles of two-way untangling start to feel heavy, I'd point you back to the original Solitaire.

How to play Bisley Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build the four piles on the left up in suit from Ace to King, and the four piles on the right down in suit from King to Ace. One ace of each suit is dealt to a left-column pile at the start of the game.

13 tableau piles: Build up or down by suit, one card at a time; there are no empty spaces to fill. Four piles start with three face-up cards, and the other nine start with four.

Foundation:

Foundation piles are classified into two types.

Foundation A has four piles, and each one starts with an ace dealt at the beginning of the game. A card can be added to a Foundation A pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a J of diamonds is a Q of diamonds.

Foundation B also has four piles, and any king can be moved onto an empty Foundation B pile to start it. A card can be added to a Foundation B pile only if it's one rank lower and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a J of hearts is a 10 of hearts.

Cards cannot be removed from any foundation once they have been placed on it.

Tableau:

There are two groups of tableau piles: four piles start with three cards, and nine start with four. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank higher or one rank lower and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the cards that fit on a 7 of clubs are the 6 of clubs and 8 of clubs.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card can be played onto the foundation or any non-empty tableau pile.

Empty tableau spaces may not be filled.

Only one card may be moved at a time; sequences are not permitted.
