How to play Chateau Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit. Each pile starts with its ace already in place.

12 tableau piles: Build down in any suit. Runs in sequence can move down regardless of suit. Only a King or a run led by a King may fill a space. At the start of the game, each pile is dealt 8 cards face-up.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles, and each one starts with its ace already in place.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on an 8 of hearts is a 9 of hearts. No pile can hold more than 13 cards.

The top card of a foundation pile can be moved back into play if a tableau pile will accept it.

Tableau:

Twelve tableau piles hold eight cards each, all dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower than the pile's current top card, regardless of suit, so the only card that fits on a five is a four of any suit.

Any uncovered tableau card can be played onto the foundation or another tableau pile.

Only a King, or a run led by a King, may fill an empty tableau spot.

Runs of cards in sequence from high to low can move from one tableau pile to another, regardless of suit.
